The Worst Job I EVER had

When I was a young boy, my father took me

into the city to see a marching band, and

on the way home we walked past this shop

called Games Workshop, and I had never

seen this shop before. They had all these

interesting things on display. There were

these futuristic-looking soldiers and

tanks, and it all looked very fascinating.

I asked my dad, Daddy, can I have one of

those? And he said, yes, Daniel, yes you

may. And that was how my addiction to the

tabletop miniature game Warhammer 40K

began. Well, actually, that wasn't how it

began at all. I just thought that sounded

more interesting. What actually happened

was one day I went over to my friend's

house and he showed me his Ork collection,

and I thought, wow, that looks cool,

maybe I'll get some as well. So I did,

and then we started battling each other's

armies like a couple of nerds. With

Warhammer 40K, you need to build an army,

and And you need to buy boxes of infantry

and vehicles, and they would cost about

£20 each. A tank would cost nearly £40.

The rulebook cost £40 on its own. It was

like this massive, thick, huge book. And

as you can imagine, 14-year-old Daniel

didn't have much money because he didn't

have any jobs or YouTube channels. So he

begged his mummy, who at the time was

working at a battery chicken farm, if he

could go along with her to help her work

and earn some pocket money. Every day

after school, I would come home so I could

sit in my bedroom painting and gluing

these toy soldiers together. I used to

love it, actually. Maybe I'll get back

into it someday. Anyway, I was really

desperate for money, and luckily my mum

said yes, and she let me come along with

her to work. And it was a really tough

job, probably one of the worst jobs I've

ever had. I really hated it, but I was so

desperate for money at the time, I was

able to do it. So first of all, we had to

wake up at 5 AM in the morning. So early.

At that age, I had never had to wake up so

early before, and it was like torture. I

couldn't stand having to wake up so early.

Dragged myself out of bed, we got into the

car, and then she would drive us to the

farm, and In the car, I would start

falling asleep again, and then we would

arrive at the farm, and there were these

buildings because, you know, they had all

the chickens in them in cages. I don't

know if they do that anymore. I think that

got outlawed in England. And we had to go

into one of these battery chicken farms,

and it was so horrible in there. It smelt

revolting. There was no ventilation in

there apart from this really tiny window,

and the air was just thick with the smell

of chicken feces. It was so, so bad

that after standing there for a few hours,

you could begin to taste the smell in your

mouth. You could actually taste it in your

saliva. It was like you were eating

chicken poop. So the job involved us

standing by a conveyor belt which carried

eggs along to us, and there'd be so many

eggs. There'd be hundreds and hundreds.

They would just keep coming and keep

coming, keep coming. And then we had to

collect the eggs and place them into these

cardboard trays. And you might be

thinking, oh, that doesn't sound so bad.

You just stand there and then you pick up

eggs and put them into a tray. Oh no, the

eggs were absolutely disgusting. They

weren't nice clean eggs that were coming

along. Some of them— well, most of them

were covered in poop, and then some of

them were covered in blood, and then some

of them weren't even developed properly

and didn't have shells. And we weren't

allowed to use gloves because gloves would

make it slippery. You might get the gloves

stuck in the conveyor belt mechanism. So

you just end up constantly touching

chicken poop and blood and all of this

disgusting gross stuff that was attached

to the eggs. You also had to be really

quick because there would be so many eggs

coming along, and if you weren't fast

enough, the eggs would start falling off

the conveyor belt, and then you'd have to

press the stop button and then stop the

whole system from moving whilst you catch

up. My mum was really good at it. She

could hold about 3 eggs in each hand and

do it really quickly. I wasn't so great.

I could manage maybe 2 at most, but even

when I tried holding 2 eggs at the same

time in each hand, sometimes I would drop

the eggs and then it would make a big mess

on the floor, and then I had to clean it

up using paper towels. We used to have the

radio on playing, and then after a while,

these songs that we were listening to on

the radio started getting into my head.

And then every time I heard these songs,

it would trigger that smell of chicken

poop that I could taste in my mouth. It

was really weird. Sometimes it was too

much for me and I had to give up after

about 2 hours. I just had enough. The

smell was too bad, was making me feel

sick. I just didn't have the energy to

carry on, so I would just go and wait

outside in the car whilst I let my mum

finish up on her own. And there was this

little boy called William. He must have

been about 10, and I think he was the son

or grandson of the guy who owned the farm.

And then sometimes he would be there and

We used to play football together, and

that was quite fun. And I did this job for

about, I think, a few months only, just

for summer holiday. I just couldn't carry

on doing it. It was too stressful. I don't

know how my mum managed to do it for years

and years and years. So yeah, that was the

story about one of the worst jobs I've

ever had. Sorry if it wasn't very

interesting. I thought it would be more

interesting, but I guess it wasn't that

interesting. What have I been doing

recently apart from having a mental

breakdown? Not much else. Don't really

know what I want to do with my life. I'm

also really struggling to think of what to

make for videos. I really have no idea.

Really don't feel motivated to do

anything. Every day is just like the same.

I wake up, play Rainbow Six,

walk around in the garden pacing around

like a manic lunatic trying to figure out

what I want to do with my Bloody life. I

thought I had everything sorted out. I

thought for a few months everything was

figured out. I knew what I wanted to do.

I knew who I wanted to be with. I thought

it would be plain sailing. At least the

rest of this year would be. I thought at

least the rest of this year, I know what

I'm doing. I know what I want to do.

We've got plans. We're going to do this.

I'm going to do that. Then all of a

sudden, all gets flushed down the toilet,

and then you're thinking.

Well, well, what do I do now? Really,

really don't know what to do.

Even if there were things I wanted to do,

I can't do them now anyway because stupid

lockdown is still in place. Shops still

aren't opening yet. There are a few things

I have to do, like going to the dentist,

going to the optician. I thought maybe

I'll learn to drive. I don't know if that

would really help things. Maybe it would,

just seems like a big waste of money to

me. I thought maybe I shouldn't keep going

on about how I feel and how sad I am

because it just sounds kind of lame and

pathetic. And then I don't want it to

sound like I'm trying to guilt-trip

anyone. I would never try and make someone

feel guilty, that's just kind of childish.

I keep flipping and flopping backwards and

forwards between the ideas of, should I go

back to Japan and build a life, a

temporary life for myself, myself over

there since I can never stay very long?

Or should I just try and focus on building

something in England? Maybe learn to

drive, maybe get my own place. Really

don't know what to do anymore. I feel like

everything I do and try ends up failing.

Everything that I've been doing up until

now obviously hasn't been working very

well, has it? So yeah, I think for now

maybe I'll just do more artwork. Type of

videos, illustrated videos with a story

stuck to it, attached to it. Maybe that

would be fine. Well, thanks for listening
